Give God the Glory! Or not.

I was sitting in my very comfortable easy chair, sunken down, covered with my very heavy and comfortable NY Mets comforter over me, and watching the Olympics.  As one athlete after another was interviewed and thanked God for their success, I thought to myself, "if you thank Him for your success, who do you blame for your failures?"  Would you still stand there in front of the camera with the world
watching and thank or blame God for your failure at getting a gold or any medal for that matter?  At one point I saw an athlete say they thank God for the opportunity for being there and competing even though they lost.  So I ask you, is that not blaming God for losing?  Yes, He afforded you the opportunity to be there and compete, but you lost.  Wouldn't it be logical at that point to say it was His fault you lost because He sent you there?  You failed.  So someone has to take the blame.

Give God the glory.  Give God the credit.  Give God everything.  If life sucks, give it up to God.  We need to let God do what God does and stop trying to control what you have so badly lost control of.  Isn't that the way it is supposed to be?  Aren't we supposed to commit things to the hand of God, lay it at His feet, pray for direction, and lift it up in prayer?  Instead we become overwhelmed with life, we become frustrated with life, we work so hard to try and control what we cannot control, we assume we can get ourselves out of whatever situation we are in and it will work out just fine.  Why?  Because we think we know better and don't need any help.  On the other hand, when things are good and wonderful, we lift our hands to God, sing Him praises and give Him the glory for all that is good in our world.

Why is it that we blame him when things fail or life just sucks for us.  Why aren't we praising God for all that happens in life including the suffering we sometimes endure?  Yes, I said praise Him for it.  Give him the credit for it.  For decades I blamed God for how bad my life sucked yet I never praised God for when life was good.  I didn't give Him the glory or credit for anything accept to blame Him.  Most will jump up and down and curse God for what happens to them.  Is He doing good or is He doing bad by us?  Is it all His fault?  Or is it only part His fault?  What we suffer in life is a part of life and it is God's desire for us to live for His glory.  And that means we even give Him the glory for those things which we suffer through.

“Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all things to God’s glory.”  1 Corinthians 10:31.  Do ALL things to God's glory.  ALL things.  Everything in this world and beyond exists for the glory of God, including us. No matter what it is we do, we are to do it for the glory of God. We are witnesses to truth's of the gospel for the glory of God. We obey God's word and His direction for the glory of God. We are to submit to those whom God puts in authority over us and we endure suffering and persecution for the glory of God.  In everything we do we do it and give God the glory and we give it up to God when things do not go well.  It is not up to us to question what God wants.  It is simply because we have no clue anyway what He has planned and which way anything will go.

I believe that one of the things we as Christians fail to do is appreciate to goodness of God. We cannot fully appreciate the sacrifice Jesus gave for us until we learn to sacrifice all there is for, to, and of God. We have to give it up to God. We must learn to sacrifice our own insecurities, pride, self indulgences, egos, and reluctance, to the goodness that God is and trust that where He leads is where we need to be. If you cannot see all of the good that is God, then you will not see all of the good that is in God.

God does not lie.
  • "For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."   Jeremiah 29:11
  • If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."  Romans 10:9
  • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."  Matthew 11: 28-29
So we need to stop worrying about what WE need to do and what WE think we know is best.  We need to trust in God and trust in His word.  His promise of salvation and love is real and it is guaranteed.
